The department of Lima is the jurisdiction of the Regional Government of Lima, except the province of Lima, especially regime, which is based in the city of Cañete in the capital of the province's most populous jurisdiction.
Thus, the department is de facto divided into two areas: The province of Lima, for being the seat of the capital of the Republic is autonomous regional and municipal levels simultaneously (special) and all the other nine provinces are pulled under the jurisdiction of the Regional Government.
